Exporting to Excel - hard returns show up as ¦

I have an asp web page which lets users leave comments in a textarea box. This data is sent to an Access database and then I export the database as an Excel spreadsheet.

The problem is, when I export, all the hard returns entered in the textarea box show up in Excel as | characters.

Is there a way to fix this problem? The data shows up fine in Access.
