We have some data that has to be in a Dbase IV format for a government office. We use SQL Server 2000. I have never been able to export in this format. Does anyone do this and if so how?

Using the DTS wizard, when you specify the Destination (as DBase IV), in the 'File name' box put the destination PATH, not the filename.

So for instance if you want to output to 'C:\Results.dbf', in the 'File name' box just put 'C:\', then press 'Next'.

Enter your selection criteria (table or query), and then in the second-to-last pane you will see the default output as 'Results'...change this to whatever you want your output filename to be.

If you are not using the wizard, DBASE IV is selected from the connection labeled 'Other Connection'. I am pretty sure one of the DBASE types needs a special driver, but I am not sure which one. Hopefully not four ;-)

Ignorance of certain subjects is a great part of wisdom

Thanks Jason I was putting the filename instead of the path as I would do with other ways of exporting a dbase file. That did it.
