Hi,

I have a situation where I have Cognos Cubes residing on Powerplay Enterprise Server(Unix). Users connect remotely to view the cube. I was wondering does anyone have any ideas on exporting the data from the cube to an file. This is purely for testing the cube against the database.

Any help would be great. I have seen the MDX can be used. Has anyone used this or how does it work?

Hi Canhe,

Really you can't export data from Cognos cubes, but you can create macros in Power Play for read reports and save in other formats. Read "PowerPlay for Windows Macro Reference Guide"
MDX is used for access SQL Server cubes and others OLAP cubes but not Cognos cubes.

Hello Diego,

Thanks for your reply. I have created some macros that run the reports off the cubes and export to a delimited file. This seems the only way but it is not perfect as I find macros are very funny, some times they work great other times not so good.

I read that MDX can be used for Cognos Cubes in an article but I am not too sure about this

Hi,

Thanks for your responses. I did post it in the Cognos solution but I got no responses. I actually implement some macros to export to a text file so it worked out in the end but I am not too sure about Macros as they run great sometimes and are all over the place the next.
