Hi guys,

I need to export a document to PDF as a 1-colour file. Is this possible from ID? I've set the file up using only one PANTONE colour, but when I export to PDF "Press", it defaults to CMYK. Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? Thanks. :)

Are you referring to the PDF being either CMYK or RGB? If using spot colors, the PDF would appear in CMYK mode but Acrobat Professional should be able to extract the spot color.

Instead of exporting, you may also print separations (in this case, just on ink) to a virtual PDF printer.

Thanks Jimoblak. I've just gone through the back-catalogue of questions on this forum and saw a few posts about separations. I'll look into that.

What I was trying to get at is... the finished document is to be printed in 1 colour (4/1). I'm using a pantone colour and the printer wants a PDF to print from. But exporting to PDF gives me a CMYK file instead of the pantone colour I'm working with. This is all new to me, so forgive me if I'm being confusing. I'm assuming the PDF when printing, will now use all four colours? Is that right?

In fact, what I suppose I should be looking for is a 1 or 2 colour design and export tutorial... I'll hunt the net and see if I can find one...

ID will export cmyk or rgb pdfs. That's all. The cmyk should be no problem. When the cmyk is separated it will generate its own plate for the Pantone (as long as it's a spot).

This is the normal way of sending things out whether as Indesign or pdf and should present no problem.
