I need to export my data out of Crystal and create one text file for each detail record in Crystal. For example, 100 records in Crystal will produce 100 text files on export. Is this possible to do?
Thank you for your post. What would be the next step after 'New Page After'? Will Crystal allow me to create a new file for each page?
The reason why I need a file for each record is because I am using Crystal to create an XML file that will be used by another software application. The application doesn't support multiple <ADD> tags so I need to feed it multiple XML documents. I've created my crystal report to generate one XML document per record but now I need to get the one big XML document broken into the individual text files (one per record).
I'll try 'New page after' and see what I can do with it. If there is another step I need to take please let me know.
Thank you for you post as well. I started out at the site you reference prior to posting my message here. I didn't find what I was looking for at the site. I'm sure I just overlooked it based on your post. I'll go back there again and do a little bit more of a thorough review of the site.
Do you know the name of the file that should be downloaded or purchased from that site?
Once you've set the 'New page after' that will give you one line per detail record. Whatever method you are using now to export should continue to work. If you aren't exporting yet and need something for that, then Ido's suggestion is worth exploring. I can highly recommend VisualCut. I evaluated it a while back and it's a great tool.
My Disk Output and Grid UFl's both do this. They are a low cost feature and can generate multiple files from one report. The Disk Output is better if you just want one line with some simple data, but does have a UFL limit of 255 chars (thats an argument limit on UFLs there since year dot), while the Grid UFL is better if you want multiple fields with some delimiter seperating them.
