I have been working in Access 97 with 2 databases that have similar design. These were used by multiple users. When I updated a form (for example) in Database A, I would export it to Database B. There would be no problem even if someone else was in Database B.

I have now successfully converted both databases to Access 2000. When I try to do the same export, I get an error message that the object in Database B cannot be updated since there is another user in the Database.

Is the exclusive designation function different in Access 97 and Access 2000? What about in Access 2002?

I would like to continue to export updates to the second database as I make updates in the first with out have to have all users out of the second database.

From A2000 onwards you must have exclusive access to the database to carry out design changes.

You should use the split database approach (see Help). Make changes to your own frontend and simply copy the whole file to other users machines.
