exporting notes info in goldmine 5

I have had issue export notes from GM, with it only displaying the first 255 characters. I was trying to view it with Excel.
I fyou export it as an dbf file, then goldmine should produce 2 file, the second containing the notes, but excel does not recognise this.
So the solution that I came up with was to use Access to act as an export frontend, linking it to goldmine, which i have used and had no issues with for 2 1/2 years, but we are moving to Crystal, and up to GM 6.7 at the moment.
