Does anyone have any idea of a script or program that could export text and possibly photos from an InDesign document into a format that you could upload onto a website?

I produce a small newspaper using InDesign and for the online version of the newspaper, I have a website that uses php. Currently I have to copy and paste everything from the finished InDesign document into a php form I created that uploads the material. It would save me much time if there would be a way to send the stuff straight from InDesign to my website, and a friend involved in the computer industry believes there might be something out there -- any thoughts?

Saying that your website uses PHP does not really say much more than it is possible. Not knowing what kind of CMS you use, it is difficult to offer ideas.

InDesign can export XML if you have properly tagged your stories. Perhaps your PHP developer can arrange a way to import those XML files into the CMS.

Should have been...

Saying that your website uses PHP does not really say much.

(Mondays, sigh...)

Thanks for the feedback -- I'm unsure what CMS means, but I can look into that to see if I have any answers.

Would it be difficult to tag all the stories/photos to work with XML?

ID is not really geared to be able to directly convert to website-style language. Why not just make a low-rez PDF of the ID file and upload that?

CMS = Content Management System

Ideally, a newspaper would be using a CMS before text is entered into InDesign. With a CMS employed, it is not much to branch articles out to InDesign and the web. It is easier to branch out content from a primary CMS to these two outlets than to move content from one of these outlets to another.
