Hi

I've need to export data from project - I've been using the export to excel function which works fine but only allows me to export duration - what i need to export is some custom fields and the working remaining by resource. I have a separate resource file.

I need it to put the data into months like the export to excel function will do.

Any ideas?

Try: File | Save As..., change the "Save as type" to "Microsoft Excel Workbook *.xls" and then follow the Wizard's prompts.

If you need the work information by week/month/whatever this is really not available from this approach but if you just need the total value of Work, Actual Work, Remaining Work for a Resource (or the same for a Task) then this should be sufficient for your needs.

Hi

Thanks for the response - I do require the work information to be by month? Is there another way to do this?

It's a consolidated project that i'd be exporting the data out from

The time fields (Work, Actual Work, etc.) that you are looking for appear in total columns which you can easily access ("Work", "Actual Work", etc.) but the day-by-day, week-by-week, month-by-month info is stored in a thing called "TimeScaleData".

TimeScaleData is exported by -- as you have already seen -- the Analysis Toolbar's "Analyze Timescaled Data in Excel" button. Unfortunately, as you have also already seen, you are limited in the fields you can export that way.

The "Save As..." and selecting an Excel spreadsheet, let's you export lots of information but not TimeScaleData.

You have two choices: Use both methods to export data and then match the two outputs manually (using the project task name); or write some VBA to export and format the data you specifically require. It's not *desperately* difficult VBA but it is _somewhat_ finicky because you want TimeScaleData.

Hi

Thanks for your help - I'm currently exporting from the Resource Master File, which only has resource information in and this doenst show me the project task name or number?

Should i be exporting from consolidated Project and not the resource?

Also VBA is not really my area - do you have any examples on how to set this up

Thanks in advance

N

You need to do the export from the Master project schedule if you want to see task information.

Before we go the VBA route see if you can (a) export the fields you want from the master schedule; (b) export the timescaledata using the Analyse toolbar while viewing the master schedule; (c) manually "massage" the two outputs so that you get the information you need.

VBA can certainly do the full job but the code development you need isn't the sort of trivial VBA code that is usually published here.
