Hi,

Would anyone know if it is possible to export info from excel into Act?

Thanks,
Maisie

Hello maisie2006,
Yes it is possible. I would first suggest you name the column headers in Excel to match the field names in ACT! If you do this the field mapping will go smoother.

Once you have your data cleaned up and ready all you have to do is save the Excel file as "Text (Tab Delimited)".

Hope this helps,
Michael

I have two questions from your answer:

1) How do I find the field names in ACT?

2) Would I be importing the "text (tab delimited)" file into Act?

Thanks,
Maisie

maisie2006,
What I generally do is to export at least contact from Act to a tab-delimited file and note the field names. When you export there will be an Options button to use that will ask you whether or not you want to export the field names.
As to your second question you will see that Act! only imports certain types of files of which text (tab-delimited) is one type. Thus why StoryTeller stated to save it in that format first before trying to import the file.
In addition, if you are importing into a blank or relatively empty database you won't be worried about duplicates. But if you have a lot of contacts or are worried about duplicates, checked Edit, Define fields (exact location depends on version) for what you've determined constitutes a duplicate when comparing items upon import.

Hope this helps.

Hello maisie2006,
1. The long way is to switch to form design view and manually look at each field in the layout. Another way is to: Help select Online Manuals then select Getting More Technical, you might be prompted for the ACT! cd. This guide will have the complete list of field names.
2. Yes, File select Data Exchange then Import.

Hope this helps.
Michael
