Hi,

I had a question for Crstal XI. Backend Data is driven by DB2.

Can I export files in groups? Example file1, file2 ...file 10 contains data for account number. file11, file 12 and so on till file 20 contains data for account name. file21, file22...file30 contains data for company.

If the files all bundled together contain millions of records, what is the best import file format to use? Does excel have a limit on the export size?

Thanks in advance

Excel versions earlier than 2003 have an limit on how many records can be exported - I think it's 654, but I don't remember exactly. Crystal XI came out before Office 2003 so it uses the earlier version of the Excel .dll files. Exporting from Crystal there is no way to export to multiple sheets in an Excel file, it all goes to the same sheet. Also, you can't export in such a way that you append on to an existing file, each export creates its own file.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

Thanks for your response.

Then does it make sense to use a newer version of crystal when it does arrive(Crystal Reports 2008 I believe?)

Is there a workaround or there i a huge limitation and we cannot really export in the above manner?

Thanks

The actual max number of records that can be exported to Excel is 65536 - I got this from the Help file a while back for a program I was writing.

Thinking more about this, you might be able to export to .csv files that can be opened in Excel 2003. Excel will then break it down into chunks of about 65536 records per tab/worksheet.

Is there a particular reason why you need to export so much data? This is way too many records for any user to be able to manage or analyze.
