Exporting files from Mac to PC format

We need to find a format from FreeHand 9 on a mac using OS9 to save files as cmyk so they can be viewed and separated into Quark 5.0 on PCs using windows XP for newspaper pagination pages.
We've experimented with a number of options and cannot find a solution. If I export as Photoshop, the black printer splits into all 4 color plates. There is no preview on the pc side in some attempts and the ones that so work show a white background.

You should save as editable EPS files from Freehand. This retains the CMYK values in both Mac and PC land!

Standard black from Freehand exports as rich black to photoshop, which uses all the plates. You could create a new CMYK ink that is 0%C 0%M 0%Y 100%K and Edit -> Replace Graphics with the new black.

On the PC, EPS files need a TIFF preview or a WMF preview to be seen in Quark. Macs normally export PICT previews which show up blank on the PC which has no native PICT support. You will need to convert your EPS preview from PICT format to TIFF. (There may be an option on the Mac, I can't remember.)

When I used Freehand 8 on PC to create EPS for Quark, I used the handy EPS/WMF utility (at

) I would export a WMF, save as Editable EPS, and combine the two with the utility. It worked perfectly.
