I am developing/maintaining a database that is being used by multiple users. Due to the nature of the database (and my lack of experience) we have decided that each user will have their own copy (which will have the same structure but different data). I am working on a change that will require each user to redefine an Import/Export Specification. Is there an easy way to copy (or export) one of these specifications from my development copy of the database into the users' copies? Or do I have to go into each user's copy and redefine the specification?

Thanks.

There may be a way from within your development database, but I'm not familiar with it. The only way I can think of to transfer Import/Export Specifications is to import them from the users database. Perform an Import (right-click database window and select Import) and check Import/Export Specs under the Options button. Just don't select any other objects.

Based on your description, it sounds like you should split your databases even though they will each have different data. Since you say the databases are identical except for data, splitting them would make revisions much easier. All you would have to do is copy in a new front-end and not mess with the data (back-end).

Thanks MoLaker,

I have imported many types of objects, but I never looked at the options dialog before. That makes the job a whole lot easier.

I had actually considered doing just what you recommended (splitting the db into front end and data dbs), but didn't want to get into that just yet. Thanks for confirming to me that it is an idea worth persuing.
