Hi,
I would appreciate if any info is provided on this...
I am trying to export an Access table that has got a memo field with carrage return on it. I need to make a commma delimited fiel/fixed length text file. How to do this?

bengalliboy,

Have you tried File / SaveAs/Export...? Choose Text Files in the "Save as type" dropdown; click on Export and the Export Wizard will come up, allowing you to choose which delimiter you want to use. I tried this on a table having a Memo field containing carriage returns/line feeds and the generated text file preserved these.

Thanks, You are right... I Can export using the wizard and if I make it a fixed length will the memo export well?

I also want to know, when bringing the dates it inserts time with it..(Like the time stamp) on the textfile. How to get rid of it? Thanks

Bengalliboy,

You can use Fixed Width but I would caution against it when exporting a table containing a Memo field, since these can accomodate a large and indeterminate amount of text. If you still want to do this, click the Advanced button on the Export Wizard. The dialog box that appears allows you to set the length of all fields. Choose a size large enough to hold the longest text you expect to have in the Memo field. After exporting, if one or more Memo fields were truncated, you will see a new table called [TableName]_ExportErrors that will show you which records were truncated (or other errors, if they occurred).

As for the Date formatting, I believe the only way to correct this is to change the formatting of the date field in Table Design mode, before you export. The default date format is "General Date", which includes time as well.
