I was wondering if anyone has encountered the following problem and has a fix.

My client machine has no ActiveX viewers installed. I have 2 web servers: 1 with Crystal Reports 8.0 installed and another with Crystal Reports 8.5. On both servers I have the Rptserver.asp with the respective versions installed on each server. The rptserver.asp files were not touched and came from the Crystal Decision Sample Applications web site.

Here is my issue. I browse for a report on the web server with cr8 installed. I'm prompted to download the viewer. I click on the YES button and the viewer installs and I can see the report. Exporting to Excel works fine.

Now I browse for a report on the web server with CR85 installed. I'm also prompted to download the viewer. I click on the YES button and the viewer installs and I can see the report. Exporting to Excel works fine.

Now I go back to browse the same report on the web server with cr8 installed. The report displays fine in the 8.5 viewer but when I export to Excel or any other format I get the error message "CRAXDRT Error occurred on Server -2147190908: Failed to export..."

I have followed the recommendations in the thread "Crystal - Exporting to Excel" with no luck. To me it seems that the CRViewer.dll version 8.5 is not backwards compatible in terms of exporting reports from a web server with CR8 installed.

Is there a hotfix for the CRViewer.dll? Right now my work around is to uninstall the CRViewer version 8.5 but that's a problem for those users which don't have admin privileges to download plugins.

Any suggestions???

Thanks for responding.

I've taken a look at this article and this does not solve the problem. I've also looked at Neither one accurately reflects my situation.

Basically, I enumerate the parameters in the Parameters collection and assign a default value (* in this case) provided that my web page calling the Crystal Report has not already provided a value.

Please confirm something for me. Does Excel need to be installed on the Web Server or the Web Client for a successful export?

Any other ideas?

Fred
