First off, I'm brand new to InDesign (and most Adobe programs) and am fairly naive about most of its capabilities. So, forgive my ignorance...

Problem: I've created a booklet that I am trying to export as a PDF. Preflight shows no errors. However, just after starting the export process I get an error that one of the fonts can't be embedded due to file restrictions. Then, the PDF isn't able to open because of a file read error.

Questions: Are these two problems related? How do I install the font that is showing an error? If not the font, what do I need to change in order to have this file openable as a PDF?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

That means that the font you used is proected by the maker of the font and is not allowed to be embedded in the pdf. It's a licensing issue. Change the font and you should be ok,

Okay...so I changed the font and no longer have the embedded font problem, but the file read error still pops up when I try to open the PDF. Am I doing something wrong in the export process?

What version of InDesign? Are you fully patched with any free updates?

Version CS2, but I haven't done anything to it other than install and activate it.

$.03 is the latest update. If you're not using it go to the Help menu/Updates and downlaod it.

I just finished loading all of the updates and the PDF file read error still comes up...

What kind of pdf are you making. Run up something quick in ID and use the Press setting from PDF export prests and see how it comes out. don't make any changes to that setting. Or reexport the booklet. See if you get the error.
