I am trying to burn a DVD of a single sequence in Premiere. The length of the sequence is about 20 minutes

Problem:
I tried two different ways. The first was to use the feature in Premiere “Export to DVD”. The second was to create an AVI from Premiere and then use Nero Vision Express Version 3 to create the DVD. The issue was the same for both, when “transcoding” the computer would run out of memory.

Fix 1:
I did a little searching and found the since I have XP SP2 I needed to install a patch KB886716 which I did.

Update of Problem:
Now when I “Export to DVD” in Premiere it gets a bit further but even after leaving it over night, there was no more progress. The CPU was idling and the program froze.

In Nero Vision express it also got further but then I got an error “Unable to create the disk structure: I/O error in DVD engine – Burn process failed – Would you like to create an error log”

Any ideas?

Thanks

Here is the end of the error log:

Just tried the Export to DVD with a 2 minute sequence. It got past the transcoding without hanging, then I got an error during the recording process: Recording Error: “could not complete the last command because: DVD err (DVDerr225793)

Note that I am trying to burn my first DVD

Based on your last post, it sounds like your issue is mainly with the burning phase of the DVD itself, not with generating the video/audio files to be burned onto the DVD. Regardless, it's not apparent this is a Premiere problem.

What are the specs on your system? RAM, CPU, etc. Have you verified latest firmware upgrades to your DVD burner?

3 GHZ
512 MB
Two hard drives, (OS/Programs & video files)

I have not checked for any upgrades.
The drive is listed on the computer as an ATAPI DVD DD 2x16x4x16

It is a BenQ DW1620 16X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Black OEM

I do burn CD's with it.

How would I go about updating firmware?

Hi Tony

I have exactly the same problem with nero vision express 3, did you solve it?

Mike

Mike,
No, it is still on my to do list! If I come up with anything I will certainly post it and I will ask you to do the same.

I am still unsure if it is a Nero issue or a burner issue. What DVD burner do you have?

It says LG on the front and HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B in device manager.

I can create a "DVD" on the hard drive but not on disc.
I have read elsewhere that nero 7 fixes it.
I have just upgraded to 768megs of ram, but it is still the same.

Cheers Mike

Hi Tony,

sorted it out, I have a Dell and hadn't realised that the ribbon cable to the DVD RW was Cable Select. I changed the jumpers and enabled UDMA.
I also updated Nero to a newer version, not 7, and it seems to work well.
I have used it for straight burning and conversion without any problems.

Cheers Mike

Mike:
Thank You !!

Same deal: I have a Dell dimension 4700 - cable select. Changed from master/slave to Cable Select and it burns!!

What is UDMA, how does one enable it?

Thanks again
