I have a PDF document which has a few monetary values in it, i want to be able to update the document from a query in SQL and then save the updated PDF as a unique file name. I assume i will need text fields in the PDF - its just how to get the data to these fields from SQL?

It is very difficult to read a PDF file directly. If it is a text pdf and not an image pdf you could copy and past the text values from the document into an sql table.

Then you could reprint a query or report to a pdf. But you would need pdf writer software like Adobe standard or Primo PDF.

Perhaps you could look at generating a new PDF out of reporting services rather than trying to update an existing one.

Reporting services has PDF as one of the export formats. You just need to create the RDL whose output looks like the existing PDF then tie it to a query or stored proc with the appropriate parameters.

I am not sure how you can automate the naming etc, but It should be possible. We use a home grown app that does all that, but I am not privy to that code. Sorry.
