Exporting is always tricky to get it perfect, make sure that you apply the latest monthly hotfixes as they often address exporting.

Creation of a single line per row of the report will be based on the layout of the report, you might consider a prompt to the user asking if they are going to export, and have different sections (2 sections for every section of the report, one for Excel exporting, one for online viewing, with suppression being used based on the parameter).

The best way to export to excel is to put all the fields you want into the Details section, and suppress all the other sections.

Also turn OFF "Free Form Placement" as that can spread things over several rows.

Also select a wide printer page size. A3 landscape gives the international people plenty of room. I don't know what the euqivalent is in the US. Editor and Publisher of Crystal Clear

Another option is to use Microsoft Query (optional part of
Excel itself): In your crystal report which pulls the data
you want, goto Database|View Sql. Select and copy that.
Drop it into Excel's Data|Get External Data|Creat New Query
and run. The result gives you an excel sheet with all the
columns you have selected with their titles as they are in
the select.

This is not a nice way to do it, but it does have an
advantage of working even if the machine you want the data
on does not have Crystal installed.

I have yet to try importing SQL into Crystal this way...
