Hi there

Why is that when I Export and Eps file in to a JPG, it won't open. How else can I save a jpg file in illustrator?

Please advise!!
Thanks!

How else can I save a jpg file in illustrator?

Save for Web.

Doesn't "save for web" loose the 300 dpi that I need it at?

Yes it does.

I always wonder what people could possibly want a 300dpi JPG for? Do you mind letting me know?

What do you mean it won't open, anyway. It won't open in Photoshop or other graphics software or it won't open in web browser?

If the latter, did you ensure the colour model was RGB during the export? (just a guess really)

Hi again,

I am entering a logo contest, and they want it in a 300ddi jpg format. I don't know why either. It looses quality as a jpg for starters. The eps is so clear, I don't really want to send it anymore as a jagged jpg. Anymore suggestions?

I'm not sure if it is the computer I am on but the export jpg will not open in any program automatically. It asks to pick a program.

Thanks again!
=O)

First did you ensure what I said about the JPG being RGB?

But from what you said:
I'm not sure if it is the computer I am on but the export jpg will not open in any program automatically. It asks to pick a program.
I would guess at two things:

Do other jpgs open automatically in a certain program?
If not then you need to associate jpg with a certain program in your Windows File Type options.

If jpgs normally open OK, I would ask is the file named properly? Make sure there are no other dots or 'odd' characters in the file name

ex.

my.file.jpg incorrect
myfile.jpg correct

Thank you,

You helped me with ensure what I said about the JPG being RGB. It now works.

I guess my problem now is that it does not have the same clarity as the eps file. It looks rather jagged when viewing. Is this because it is converted to a jpg and is there anyway to fix it so it looks similar to the eps file?

Thanks for all your help, appreciate it!

Hope this helps.

First, if the Illustrator image is small, I would enlarge it to fill a letter or even a tabloid page size. Bigger is better in this case because when it's reduced to fit on a screen, it will look even crispier.

Go to File/Document Setup.
In the window that appears,
Click on "Artboard" to show "Printing & Export".
Change the default settings to:
Output - 2540
Gradient Mesh Resolution - 300
Check off both "Split Long Paths" and
"Compatible Gradient and Gradient Mesh Printing"

Now export as jpg with "Maximum" image quality,
"RGB" Color Model and
Resolution Depth of "Custom" "300" dpi

This should look pretty good when previewed on a screen.

GREAT! Thanks a lot for all your help!
