Export issues from Viewer

I have several reports that have "detail level" subreports. These reports need to export to Excel. When I export them from the designer, and specify Excel 8, everything is fine. When I export them from the designer using Excel 5, only the first field in the subreport exports. I get this same behavior when exporting from the viewer (which doesn't let you choose a version). Is there anyway to up the excel version that the viewer (Active X) uses to export files?

There's an export patch out for 8.5, perhaps that might help, I haven't seen this problem...yet...
