Greetings! I am trying to replicate the staged process of reducing a 3000-5000 kb high resolution file or higher PM6.5 file with photos to a small, low resolution 500-1000 kb file for web posting. I did it once with printing to Adobe distiller 4.0 or 3.0, but I can't remember how I did it. Any help?

If you are using Distiller 3.0, open up Distiller, go to Distiller>Job Options. Under General, set Default Resolution to 300DPI.
Under Compression, set Color and Grayscale Bitmaps to 72DPI, and auto compression Zip/Medium should suffice. Set Monochrome Bitmaps (if you have any) to 600DPI. Check "compress text and line art"

Under fonts, check embed all fonts.

This should do the trick for a web viewable PDF. Of course if you later create a PDF for prepress, you will have to use different settings.
When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
