I am using CR version 9.0 and am attempting to transfer the data from the report into a Word Perfect Document. I would prefer to save the exported data from the Crystal Report as a dbase file which is not an option because this is the format that is accepted by the Word Perfect not *.txt file.

Is there any suggestions on which format would best be suited to export the data into a word perfect file.

Does Word Perfect accept a rich text file? rich text exports are pretty faithful to the original report. As for dbase, can you create an odbc connection to dbase? If so, you should be able to use the ODBC export option in Crystal to export to the dbase odbc connection

Word Perfect can open text files, perhaps what you mean is that you're trying to create a Word Perfect merge file?

Please post the intent, as you statements so far are incorrect, hence a third party perspective on architecture should be welcomed.

Wordperfect can open a text file

Crystal can export to dbase

FVTrainer: Unfortunately, Word Perfect does not accept rich text files either. I would be interested in using an ODBC connection. I did not install the option to set-up an ODBC connection when CR was installed on my PC. I will have to install this option.

Synapsevampire: Your correct I meant to say that Word Perfect does not accept text files when performing file mergers.

Another option is to save (export) the Crystal Report as an Excel file, and use that to merge the data.

If I need further assistance, I will let you know.

Thanks for the suggestions so far,
William

FV: I figured you were getting your wheels spun there, they intend to do a mail merge in WP, and want to be able to set up a data source for the WP document (Mail Merge file).

The downside of the ODBC connection is that it will neither overwrite nor update an exsisting table.

However I think that WP does accept a CSV format for mail merge, perhaps they'll go that route, or use Excel.
