I have a user with 3.7 Gb mail file, we archived all his emails and deleted all but a few emails. Did a compact and is now just over 2Gb but this is way to big for the amount of emails he has in it.

I want to create a new mail file then copy his few emails into it. My only concern is how to transfer his calendar appointments from one mail file to another?

Also is there an easy way to create a new mail file other than register another user with the same name?

Thanks [pipe]

Hello,

I would use the "All documents" view and then sort by size. This will show you where the largest emails were. They can be hidden at times.

Also, right click the DB, go to Database, Properties, Information tab, then % used. Is it in the high 90's?

I would clean up the mail file, Compact it from the Domino console and run an updall and fixup.

To create a new mail file, you can simply choose File, Database, New. Make sure you use the correct template and name it correctly. This must match what is in the NAB on the server. Also, make sure you place it on the right server and that you have the permission to do so.

Hope this helps.

John

Thanks

It was odd because all I could see was the few mails left in the inbox and none in any other folder, I did all docs and found a further 6000 emails, I have no idea where they were being stored. I copied the ones I wanted to another mail file then deleted all docs and copied back the other emails, its now at a sensible size.

Hi there,

But what about the calendar?
How can the calendar entries be copied form the old mail box to the new mail box?

Imagine a user who'd like to see all the old entries as well as entries for the future. I've tried select all, then copy from the old mail box and paste but all the entries end up in the same day on the new mail box!

Regards,

I moved the emails I wanted to keep to a new mail file then deleted all docs which reduced the size right down then moved back the emails I wanted to keep to the original mail file thus keeping all the calendar entries.
