I have a machine that won't find the sites for / .co.uk and other sites such as ebay, altavista.

It will display other sites such as sony.com and everything else i've had a look at.

Other machines on my network can access google so i'm sure its a problem on the specific machine.

I have tried to clean it up with ad aware 6 and had a quick skit through with hijack this.

There are no restricted sites in explorer options and everything seems to be set up correctly.....

Any ideas?

cheers

Check your HOSTS file for bad entries relating to Google, etc.

The HOSTS file should be in %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc

You can use notepad to open the file.

Had a look at hosts, there was only one entry and that was 127.0.0.1 localhost.

Had a look through the other files in the same directory just tlo check for any reference to google, unfortunately nothing.

Any other ideas?

cheers for the help

Hello there. i think there is one reason out of two for this problem, either a brower issue (restriced site) but since you say no, could be the other one, DNS entry. First flush you dns, from command prompt: ipconfig /flushdns
then try to do a ping for google to check if your machine can establish connection. If pinging works/and guess it will/ test your browers. Browersing didn't work, then some where the site is blocked/restricted.

I have flushed the dns and tested for viruses, checked the registry, scanned with ad-aware........

i can ping google and such like so its just a problem with explorer itself, it happens no matter whick user i log in as so its not any user specific settings.

I have checked the explorer options for restricted sites / restricted IP's and theres none, I can access google from any other machine on my network logged in under any user name.

really rather strange and unexplained.....

cheers for the help

Can you paste a hijack-this log? To me, it really sounds like your browser is hijacked. Check out your proxy settings. A spywareprogram might have proxied you in a way that those sites aren't found.

Peace,

Yellow
