Explorer (Not Responding)

everytime I start my computer and load to desktop, I have to hit alt+ctrl+del the end task the explorer cause it is not responding then everything pops up again and seems to work fine. I don't want to have to do this everytime I start windose.
I also don't have The ME Disc, I bought a compaq and it only came with a quik restore cd, I don't wish to lose everything.
 
1) Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode (hitting F8 during bootup)?

2) Have you tried using msconfig to disable some apps at startup, narrowing down the cause of the problem? If you're not familiar with it, there's plenty of info on this site and the net if you just search.

3) Have a look at this article to start cleaning up your system (this was written for Win95/98, but a lot of it applies to WinME as well):
