Hello I'm not sure if there is a topic about this already and I'm also not sure if I am in the right forum, but anywho i searched the forums and couldn't find anything on it so here's my problem.

I start windows and everytime I start it I only get the desktop background, no icons no taskbar no anything. So I thought explorer.exe wasn't running so I checked that in the CTRL+ALT+DEL Windows task manager and it was not in the running processes, so I tried to start a new task and typed in
"explorer.exe" taskbar flashes very quickly then disappears again? Leading me to believe that explorer.exe tries to run but is shut down immediately. I can still open programs through task manager but it is kind of a hassle.

Any help would be awesome, because I don't even know where to begin. Well I have an idea it's something with the Registry Keys but thats just a hunch.

zVaderz,
My two cents worth: Sounds like spyware or adware has corrupted your explorer. It is possible that your only solution will be to save your data, verify you have disks for your OS and all your programs, then do a complete, clean install of the OS. I typically do this once every couple years to my PC's anyway. I just love the way gates won't allow my Pc to let go of anything digital it has seen or touched. LOL
End of my two cents worth.

zVaderz,

I just solved this problem on a friend's S-L-O-W XPpro machine. Constantly getting "explorer.exe has generated errors and must be closed, you loser". OK I made the last part up.

Anyway what seemed to work was using my old Norton Systemworks 2002 CD and choosing to "Run Utilities from CD". I ran the "WinDoctor" utility and away went the problem.

Another thing to try Start ->Run-> sfc /scannow with your Windows CD in the tray. This checks system files, and works sometimes (sfc=System File Checker).

Or, the dreaded cure-all, the reinstall. as described by jwulf1092 above. I do agree this needs to be done every so often.
