I know there have been several postings about this already, and I've read the responses. Unfortunately, my problem still persists. So far I've defragged my disks, done a full scan with my virus checker, I've run cwshredder, spybot and adaware (which was useful, as they found and fixed a number of problems).
On bootup the system is fine, but within half an hour or so, even if I just let the machine stand idle, explorer.exe gradually takes over.
Any ideas?
Richard

i have done exactlly the same and still have the problem too please help us !!!!!

I tore my hair out for about a week over this problem. I was about to do a complete reinstallation of my system when I discovered what was wrong. It was a hardware issue. I noticed my cd burner wasn't functioning (Iomega) and when I unplugged it from the mains, hey presto, all my troubles were over. Don't ask me the technical reason for this cos I can't give it to you. Some kind of contention I guess. However, it must be worthwhile checking all your peripherals and maybe unplugging them. Hope this helps.

You may have a memory leak that is causing this process to climb the CPU % ladder.

You may have to reinstall the OS or format and reinstall.

Hope this helps,

Erik
