My Windows Explorer crashes when IE6 is installed. If I back off to IE5.5, SP2 everything is OK. If I reboot the box I can then start Windows Explorer but it will soon and randomly crash. The cause is IE6 - but where? What can I tweak or correct so IE6 will coexist with Explorer? This seems to be more prevelant in W2K Pro but is also doing it on my W2K Server as well.
If I reinstall IE6 it does no good. The only thing that works is backing off to IE5.5 This is a problem on several boxes I've come across in the past.
Suggestions?

Install IE 6 and then reinstall SP2.

I think this might work. ====================================

IE6 was already installed. I reinstalled it and to no avail. I went into Add/Remove and there was no IE6 listed. I then removed IE6 with:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IE Uninstall\w2kexcp.exe /U
This put the previous IE5.5,SP2 active again and listed in Add/Remove (neither version was previously there prior to this uninstall). Now Windows Explorer is stable again but IE6 is gone. I will try upgrading to IE6 again to see what happens. The problem is random and I can't seem to boil it down to anything in particular. It does crash everytime when I use Windows Explorer and IE6 - but when it happens is totally up to the system. It almost seems heat related.
