hi,

Figured this would be the best place to post this.

We have flash meeting every morning where we have to run through any impacting issues in the last 24 hours to senior mangement. Many of these issues are down to applications getting confused by windows memory and the way windows handles memory. The only fix is usally a reboot out of hours, nothing you can do about it.

In these meeting the question is always asked "what caused this", "what proactive measures are now in place to prevent it happeneing again"

How do you guy explain to management regarding a memory issues causing problems with apps from time to time. Just trying to improve y own PR with management.

regards

I simply tell them I didn't write the damn software, I just work with it.

Proactively if it was an issue, I'd reboot the servers on a regular basis.

Have you worked with the software mfg's to see if they have any solutions or if they even know about the problem?

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

I have a few client servers (primarily Win 2000) with leaks which can not be fixed, Veritas Backup Exec (old version)is a big offender. I just create a bat file to stop all the offending executables or services for a few minutes, and then restart them, once a day during off hours...beats rebooting.
