Experiencing Problems with New Windows Me Upload

I have loaded Windows Me OS on my computer and after three seperate attempts I am still plagued with a problem. The start button does not work. When I select Start, the button indents howver it does not pull up any menu. The OS seems to work fine except for this one quirk. Recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the hardware compatibility list at MS?
If the system installed (hopefully a full install, not an upgrade) with no errors, it should work.
The only other system I've seen the same problem on, was because of an upgrade from 98. Cheers,
