I have a BCM 50 that looks like it has 16 DN ports and a PRI. What is the largest number of DN ports I can expand it to? Can I add more modules and will I need to use a keycode? I am looking at doubling it to 32. I would also like to add about 20 analog lines as well for various devices i.e. faxes, gate cal boxes and elevator emergency phones, credit card machines, etc.

You are not going to grow a BCM 50 to have that many analog lines. The main cabinet of a BCM 50 can be Key Coded for 4 analog lines & 12 DN ports. It can be key coded to have 2 expansion cabinets which will each take a BCM Module. Sounds like you already have at least 1 expansion cabinet with a PRI. That leaves you one expansion module to put a 32 DN card or an 8 Line X 16 DN module. That is as big as you are going to get a BCM 50. You could also Key Code the Main cabinet to have more DNS. if you want to go with IP sets.

There are two expansion cabinets in place a total of 3 cabinets. How about if I used external ATA's and used some of the DN's for the digital applications? This site is stable at about 18 T7316e sets and has been for about 6 years. It is a large upscale Condo/apartment building so they only have so many departments, front desk, leasing ofc, HOA ofc. Valet, security etc..

The math on your config has you with a possible 44 Dns. 12 keycoded on the main cabinet & a 32 card in one of the expansion cabinets. Each ATA that you use will mean one less 7316E set. So if you are planning on having 20 ATA's that really cuts down on the digital sets. It would also take one hell of a large backboard area to mount 20 ATA's.Not an ideal config but certainly will work if you are only using 18 7316E sets.

I have used a BCM FEM Fibre Expansion Media Bay Module on a BCM400 for a couple of E&M trucks in a 0X12 cabinet. Looks like the FEM is compatable with the BCM50 but I'm not sure is this is very cost effective as you would loose one of the exising MBM's and need to buy additional cabinets. Looks like a BCM450 upgrade and reuse existing MBM and add additional MBM depending on what you have already.

How about this. I just replace the BCM50 with a MICS and add 2 ASM's. All I need is a PRI keycode and wither a CP or NAM. This site is small and will not be expanding very much in the future.

Sounds like you just answered your own question as to what your ideal solution would be.
