As a preamble, I've recently started a job that involves me managing an already setup Exchange Server for a small school. I am the IT department and came from a networking background, so a lot of this is pretty overwhelming.

Now, on to my question. One of my users has been able to get e-mail (username@myschool.edu) in the past. As of the other day, she is not longer able to receive e-mail that originates outside the organization, although she is still able to get e-mail sent from within the organization. To further complicate matters, she has an alias e-mail address (admissions@myschool.edu) that forwards to her e-mail address. E-mail sent from the outside, to her alias does get through to her account.

Do any of you have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Check her active directory account firstly and see if she does in fact still have the username@ address assigned to her.

If she does, check her client for rules

Hi noveyron,

First off, I've checked her AD account, and she still has the useername@address assigned to her.

When you say her client, are you referring to Outlook, installed on her machine?

To add an additional piece to the puzzle, I decided to validate this error, by sending her mail from my gmail account and it went through. However, I know that it's not a problem with the sending server, since the original failed e-mail was sent to a bunch of my users, who all got it (with the exception of this one user).

Yep, check the outlook client for rules, although it is beginning to sound like the sender used the wrong address possibly - can you check that the username@ address is correct on the email that one of the other addressees received?

Otherwise have a look at message tracking:
