EXIF thumbnails generation

Hi,
Previously when I have needed thumnails of images in an album I have created a thumbs direcotyr and filled it with resized images. I then realised I could use the embedded exif thumnails, and simplify things considerably. But if there is no thumbnail for whatever reason (what reasons might there be? When is this thumnail generated), I can't work out how to create one... any ideas?

Use the GD library to create a resized version of image in question. You'll probably also want to do something to ease the server load if you have to generate alot of thumbs.

So you could try storing the thumbnail the first time it is generated. Then next time that image is required the thumbnail already exists.
