How to execute a script before and after the backup?

In the properties for the backup job, found under the first tab (General, I think), you will see two spots on the lower half of the screen. One is pre-job command and the second is the post-job command (or something like that).

I didn't purchase the Exchange Module or Open-File Module, so every time I ran a backup, I was getting about 50+ files that wouldn't get backed up because they were open. I created a small batch file that stops the Exchanges Services (shuts Exchange down) and another batch file to start those services. You need to enter the full patch of the files in the appropriate places (Pre-Job Command: C:\BACKUPJ\STOPEXCH.BAT)(Post-Job Command: C:\BACKUPJ\STRTEXCH.BAT).

Since then, I haven't had to worry about Exchange not being backed up AND have successfully restored Exchange twice with no problem. (Once to replace drives, Once to replace production server).

Hope this info helps.
