Hi all. Not sure if this is the correct forum.

I have a PDF file that I want to save as a text file. When I open the file in adobe reader 8 I can go File ==> Save as Text and I'm done. I need to do this for 7,000 + pdf files.

Is it possible to executed File ==> Save as Text from a dos prompt?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't believe Adobe Reader offers that functionality. However, there are other applications that will allow you to do that.

For example:

Basically all you do is call the executable with the input and output files you want. You can then create a batch file that can loop through your 7000 files and convert them.

I believe the OP is trying to go from a .PDF to a .TXT file....Phil yours looks like it is going from a .TXT file into a .PDF file, and Dave, I have no idea what you are trying to accomplish with the copy command from a*.pdf into newfile.pdf, as it's still a .PDF file format. See if this will work for you : a-pdf Or to do a bulk text from multiple pdfs try this one : ZillaPDF

I am trying to go from a .PDF to a .TXT. rclarke250, thanks for the clarification.

Thank you all for your help.

Diancecht, the PDF2Text seems to be the best option for what I need to do. Also, the layout of the text file is identical to the pdf, which is grate. Thanks Diancecht.

My mistake sorry. googling some more brings up this one:
