Do u know about the exec format error . I am trying to install python which i di from the aix free ware site, thoughthis worked for most developers some
needed open ssl so i installed that too, however no they have the following error ..

The system can find the /usr/local/lib/libssl.a but it is complaining about an 'exec format' error.

The user can 'nm' the ssl library as well as the library that calls it.

Will running ranlib on the library would help or not.

Any other suggestions,

Thanks,

Garry

Just a guess, perhaps it needs to be recompiled for that machine. Not a programmer so I am probably way off. IBM Certified -- AIX 4.3 Obfuscation

Are you saying that libssl.a is in the /usr/local/lib directory? Is it executable? Is /usr/local/lib in your library path (LIBPATH)?

"exec format error" is pretty generic, and can mean different things. Can you give the exact command and error message you are getting?
