.exe files attempt to open in Acrobat Reader

I got a call from my Uncle who said all his icons have the Adobe Acrobat icon. Attempting open any programs results in an error that says Acrobat cannot read the file.

I had him go into the Safe mode and the same thing happens. I tried to have him remove Acrobat 7, and of course the program will not work. Going to Start > Run > Command does not work either.

Researching the archives here leads me to believe this is a most terrible situation. SirCam virus does a similar thing, but I suspect something happened when trying upgrade to Acrobat 7. Either way, I have not found a way to try to fix the association of the .exe files.

Any ideas from those much more knowledgable than myself??

From what I hear, TweakUI (a Microsoft Tool) has a "restore file associations" option...
