.exe attachments taking forever

This seems to be a new problem since I don't remember it being this bad but when a user or I try to send an e-mail with an .exe, (my test had a file 3.4 megs)it'll sit in the SMPT.box for about a day if it goes through at all. When it errors out, it comes back with the normal delivery failure.
Any ideas on what might be causeing this? Thanks [sig][/sig]

Thanks for all the help...anyway, the problem was that the SMPT MTA had become corrupt. I ran the fixup which fixed the problem. [sig][/sig]
