I am developing an app and am the only user of this app. After weeks of development, all of a sudden, when I attempt to open a form in design mode, I get the error message:

"You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time."

Yesterday, to get around this issue, I took an earier version of my app and applied changes. I was able to work without getting the "exclusive access" error. This morning, I am getting it again.

I have already tried:

Rebooting
Compact and repair

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks.

An additional note:

I attempted to open the accdb file "exclusively" by starting Access and doing File / Open / and selecting "Open Exclusive". When I do that, I get an error:

Error 3045:
could not use 'filename.accdb'; file already in use

Could this be the windows operating system issue and not Access?

A few things: Have you located the .laccdb lock file for the database? Open it with notepad and paste what is in it here so we can look at it. Are you declaring any Application Objects in your code? You may be opening the db twice in your code, or your code may be leaving it open in a hidden state when you think you have it closed. Close all Access applications, then open Task Manager, and click the Processes tab and check to see if Msaccess.exe is still running even tho you have completely closed it. If so, your code has a problem somewhere.

If that is not the case: Is the accdb on a network server? If so, is there chance it is opened elsewhere on the network? If you can absolutely ascertain it is not, it may be a problem with the network server being unable to let go of the lock on the file for some reason, you may need to reboot your network server to release the dead lock.

thanks. I'm not using anything on a network server. I will follow your guidance and get back. Appreciate it.
