I have an inherited 97 database that only lets one user use it at a time, despite the exclusive box being unticked?

Guy:

Are the user's opening the app from a shortcut?

If so, check the target string and see if the /exclusive switch has been set.

Larry, no the database isn't accessed through a shortcut.

Guy:

I'm at a loss to explain the behaviour. If the Default Open Mode is set to "Shared" and the users are not using a shortcut with the /exclusive switch, it should open for multiple users.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Solved

Would you believe it.
By ticking the 'exclusive box' opening the Database, then unticking the 'exclusive box, and opening, sorted it out!

Guy:

Well, nobody ever said that Access is perfect.

I just wrote a Select Case statement and Access kept telling me that I don't have an End Select which, most certainly, was there.

Turns out I had left off a Next to end a For loop. Why the compile error didn't pick up on that instead of identifying the Select Case as the problem is anybody's guess.

Access can defintely be quirky at times.

Glad you were able to fix the problem.
