Can you configure SMS 2.0 to not discover an IP address range so that certain clients will not be initially discovered? The scenario that I am facing is the is an IP address range that is devoted to dial in client. This company does not want to discover these clients. Is this possible?
Thanks

I'm running into the same problem. Dial-In clients are getting the SMS Client stuff (16+ MBs!) over their 33k and 56k modems. I suspect the reason is that our 3com Modem Dial-In exists within the same subnet as the Site Server.

I thought that Slownet.exe was supposed to stop this, but apparently not.

I'd rather just exclude IPs. Suggestions anyone?

Use a different IP address range for the RAS address pool.

John

To exclude servers or w/stns, start the registry editor on the site server, navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Components

From the edit menu, create a new key called
SMS_DISCOVERY_DATA_MANAGER

From the edit menu again, with this new key highlighted, click on 'Add Value' and use the following values:-

Value name:- ExcludeServers
Data type, choose:- REG_MULTI_SZ

Click OK and from the Multi string editor, list the names of all the workstations you want excluded from receiving client software from SMS (one name per line).

Close the registry editor.

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the responses. The IP address range for the RAS pool is a difficult choice in my environment. But might be my only alternative.

As to the registry info, thanks, Lola for that. As I understand it, this only excludes NT Workstations and Servers, not (as is my case) for Win9x clients. (Too bad!) :/
