Exclude option in ArcServe

Hello All

I am fairly new to ArcServe, as i have just been given the responsibility of day to day running of backups. We are using ArcServe V 11.5.

Currently we do differential backups on daily basis and Full on the weekend and last weekend of each month we carry out an Archive backup.
We have a large Archive section that we only backup on a Archive weekend and currently i have put a filter to exclude this from backing up on daily and full weekend backups. However, on each Archive weekend i have to dial in from home to change enable this filter so that the Archive section of the drive is also backed up.

My Question is as i am currently manually include/exclude this, is there a way to automate this so that on a Archive weekend the filter automatically includes this so that it is backed up that night.

Are you doing manuall changes to your backup job every weekk / month? You could split your job into three different jobs. A daily, weekly and monthly job and then you can have different include / exclude filters for each job.

We use HP msl5000 libraries. Hence Tapes are changed automatically.
The Archive is held once a month on a saturday. The Archive Drive is filtered to Exclude. Currently on the Saturday i have dial in to Include this option in the filter.
I can't Include this on the Friday (before leaving work) because Fridays schedule will back this up, which i don't want.

How many backup jobs do you have in arcServe? If you have only one job, you need to split the job into several different (read: equal) jobs where you have exlude on your daily and weekly backup while you include on your monthly one.

we are using msl5000 libraries with several jobs. However this archive only runs on one job.
I don't mind manually changing the filter from Exclude to Include once a month, but sometimes you forget since it is once a month.
I am just thinking if it is possible to write a script that can be scheduled as a generic job to carry out this task?

Just schedule a new job that will replace the "regular" weekend with your exclusions/inclusions. Just like klunde suggested. So your monthly schedule would look something like: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Week1, Week2 with archive, Week3, Week4 (if possible), Month End etc.
