Exchange/Windows 2000 ----> Exchange 2003 1

I currently have one server, running Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2000. I want to upgrade to Exchange 2003 as easily as possible.

Can I just upgrade Exchange to 2003 and will it run on Windows 2000 SP4 DC?

Yes but you need to run Setup.exe /ADPREP and Setup.exe /DomainPrep first.

You then need to watch out for mangled attributes.

So I need to run ADPREP and DOMAINPREP off of the Windows 2003 Server CD? Not the the Exchange 2003 CD.

I'm confused because that article seems to be talking about actually upgrading the the server to 2003, not Exchange. I plan on leaving the server on 2000 and moving Exchange to 2003.

I knew there were some schema updates to run, but I figured that would all be contained on the Exchange 2003 media.

Sorry I confused you and actually mistyped above. You will only be running the schema updates from the Exchange CD and the proper commands are

SETUP.EXE /FORESTPREP
SETUP.EXE /DOMAINPREP

The above will execute the Exchange setup to upgrade the schema. Then you can run through the normal setup without any command line switches.
