I want to build a second Exchange 5.5 server to run various tests on my current Exchange organisation/site.

What are the consequences of restoring my databases onto;

1. A new server in the same site.

2. A new server in new site

Which is my best option or is there a beter way of doing this.

thanks

If it is going to be for testing purposes only I would build a new Exchange Organization with the same nameing conventions that you already have. This way you can restore your current DB in with out any problems.

My test Exchange server is set up on a completely separate network with no connection to the live network. Makes it much more flexible for playing around while not posing any threat to the live network. The server itself has exactly the same Exchange setup as the live one. I do fairly regular restores of the live system onto this box without any problems.

Thanks for the tip, in fact I have already built the test network and in the process of installing Eschange 5.5.

Where can I get a copy of Service Pack 2 for Exchange 5.5 as the server I am restoring is running SP2 and I have been tols everything must be the same.
