I have setup a new 2000 domain with 2 dc's and one exchange 2000 server.

If I access the active directory users and computers from the exchange server via the mmc console then I have the exchange task from right clicking the user and from properties of the user I have the exchange tabs.

But, If I access the user properties from either of the dc's through AD Users and Computers then I have no exchange task and cannot change mailbox properties.

Does anyone know how to make AD users and computers look the same at all servers.

Yep, you need to install the admin components which are on the Exchange Server CD onto those other machines.

Run Exchange Setup on all of them and do a custom install of just System Management Tools. You will need to do this on all machines you want to be able to use them from, as well as all machines that you want to do a backup of Exchange from. Marc Creviere

Yep, you need to install the admin components which are on the Exchange Server CD onto those other machines. Go through the setup process as usual but make sure you don't install the server components!

Thanks for the quick responce.

Can NT backup perform a remote online backup of exchange 2000?

Thanks for the help. Can the Exchange tools be added to a 2000 professional PC? I remember reading about having to add the system tools to all servers that would participate in the exchange task but I had forgotten.

donnie4564 - Yes. Once you've got the System Management Tools installed, run ntbackup and you'll see Microsoft Exchange listed as an option - expand it and it will ask for the server the remote store is on.

davidmic - Yes, the management tools can be added to a 2000 pro machine. Marc Creviere
