As you can probably tell from the number of Exchange related queries I keep posting we have little in house expertise with Exchange and our Exchange Server is a bit of a Friday afternoon machine unfortunately.
The latest issue is that the Exchange System Manager keeps hanging when trying to expand the "first storage group". This has happened on the odd occasion in the past but a server reboot normally resolves it. However now it happens every single time, even if the server is fresh from a restart.
I have even tried adding the ESM snap in on one of our DC's but it does exactly the same thing.
I've looked in the event logs of the Exchange server and it is absolutely awash with warnings, by far the most numerous of which is the following:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store
Event Category: General
Event ID: 9551
Date: 30/04/2010
Time: 10:29:25
User: N/A
Computer: HERA
Description:
An error occurred while upgrading the ACL on folder [Public Folders]/Company Contacts located on database "First Storage Group\Public Folder Store (HERA)".
The Information Store was unable to convert the security for /O=removed/OU=removed/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=username into a Windows 2000 Security Identifier.
It is possible that this is caused by latency in the Active Directory Service, if so, wait until the user record is replicated to the Active Directory and attempt to access the folder (it will be upgraded in place). If the specified object does NOT get replicated to the Active Directory, use the Microsoft Exchange System Manager or the Exchange Client to update the ACL on the folder manually.
The access rights in the ACE for this DN were 0x7fb.

In addition there is the following warning:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General

Time: 10:25:01

And one actual error:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeFBPublish
Event Category: General
Event ID: 8213
Date: 30/04/2010
Time: 10:39:18
User: N/A
Computer: HERA
Description:
System Attendant Service failed to create session for virtual machine HERA. The error number is 0xc007052e.

I understand the problems being advised in the warnings as they relate to users whose accounts have either been disabled in or removed from the AD. But the error is outside of my expertise. Would this be causing the ESM to crash when trying to expand the first storage group and if not, what would?
