I have just done an offline defragmentation of the information store to get our space back, but now the backups go to "On Hold" and then fail when i take it off hold, and then imediately starts to backup again which is most annoying.

The only thing in the Job Log is a message saying:
"The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set aborted" - in the bckup,

then:
"Unexpected end of backup set encountered on HP 1."
During the verification.

And it appears the it went onto hold just before actually Verifying the Information Store.

Any help would be apreciated.

Kind regards Rob

I wouldn't....I don't have experience with backing up Exchange, but someone might have your answer. One thing I've found is that not everyone reads these several times a day. Some read the posts once a day and sometimes that's after work. I never expect an answer on the same day I post (I'm always thankful when I do get a quick answer though).

you have to check the media that you are using ..
inventory it then, or erase the tape so that the veritas can use the tape.

I have tried that. here is some of the job log from last night, after I erased the tape

as you see, I am able to back up most other things, just that the information store is not interrested?

any ideas?

Hi again, I am just posting this to say that this is not the problem now, I have since found out that there is a bigger problem at hand, corrupt information Store.

If anyone gets this error, I am inclined to say to look elsewhere within the Exchange Server to locate the problem, Microsoft Knowledge base has a lot on this subject.

Thankyou for your time
