We currently have 2 sites (UK and US) which both have their own individual domain which are linked over a vpn and the domains are trusted. Therefore we have 2 exchange servers (UK and US). Due to internal proesses having the domains in a trust is causing problems, therefore I have been asked to investigate having one forest with two domains.

With this I guess I can only have 1 exchange server as all users addresses are going to have the same domain name therefore it all goes back to the same mx record? Is this correct? This then means when an email is sent to a user in the US it goes to the UK exchange server then sent over the vpn to the users outlook. Is this correct?

How do others deal with this scenario?

Thanks

Kev

Unless you create subdomains in your SMTP address space. Something like user@uk.domain.com and user@us.domain.com

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

Thats something we want to come away from. Although we operate 2 seperate internal domains, our public facing email is currently user@domain.com for the UK and user@us.domain.com for the US.

We want this a solution where its user@domain.com for both sites.
