We have exchange 2003 setup in our organization. We are not very big with less than 20 users, so we do not have our domain as abc.com. Instead we have our domain at abc.local. Right now we have our exchange server(server3.abc.local) and all email is downloaded via the client side through pop servers and all accounts are setup in the clients outlook. Then when email downloads it downloads direectly into the MS exchange store. I realise that I can setup exchange to do some spam filtering or I could purchase a better spam software for the client side, but would love to have some sort of server side filtering. Basically something that would go to the message store and scan all emails stored and then move them to a junk folder. Is this at all possible or do I have way to high of hopes?

You can use IMF which is built into SP2 to do this, however you will need to have the email delivered to the Exchange Server directly for any filtering to work. SPAM filtering works on the SMTP server and not the Information Store. By using POP on the client side you are bypassing the SMTP server and thus no filtering can take place.

After enabling IMF and setting it to archive, I recommend you use my management pages to manage that content as there are ocasional false positives and you will want to redeilver some mail. The management pages are available here for free:
I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
